About the ATS Resume Builder

Applicant tracking systems (ATS) and recruiters skim resumes for the skills and terms a job posting asks for. This free ATS resume checker compares your resume against a specific job description and shows where they line up and where they don't, so you can tailor each application instead of sending the same document everywhere.

Paste your resume as plain text (up to 6,500 characters) and the target job posting (up to 3,500 characters), then click Score my resume. AI reviews both and returns a 0-100 score for ATS readability and keyword match, a list of strengths, a list of improvements, missing keywords from the posting, suggested power verbs, and a rewritten professional summary aimed at that role.

How to read the score. The number is an AI estimate of how well your text matches this one posting, not a result from a real employer's ATS. Use it as a before-and-after gauge: fix the gaps, paste the revised resume, and run it again against the same posting to see whether the match improved.

A worked example. Say you are a marketing coordinator applying for a Digital Marketing Specialist role. You paste your resume and the posting, which mentions Google Analytics 4, SEO, A/B testing and HubSpot. If your resume only says "managed social media," the missing-keywords list will likely flag terms like those from the posting, the improvements list may suggest quantifying results (for example, how much engagement grew), and the summary rewrite will reframe your opening around digital marketing.

Only add what is true. Put missing keywords into your resume only where they honestly describe your experience, since interviews will test them. This tool reviews text; it does not design or export a formatted resume file, so keep your final layout simple (standard headings, no text in images) for the best ATS parsing.

How to use it

  1. Paste your resume. Copy your resume as plain text into the "Your resume" box (up to 6,500 characters).
  2. Paste the target job description. Add the full job posting you are applying for in the "Target job description" box.
  3. Click Score my resume. The button activates once both boxes contain more than 50 characters.
  4. Review score, strengths and improvements. Check the 0-100 ATS score and the AI's lists of what works and what to fix.
  5. Add missing keywords and power verbs. Work the relevant missing keywords and suggested verbs into your resume where they are accurate.
  6. Use the rewritten summary and rescore. Adapt the AI-rewritten summary, then paste the updated resume and score it again.

Frequently asked questions

How is the ATS score calculated in this ATS resume builder?

An AI model reads your resume and the job description and rates the match from 0 to 100 based on ATS readability and keyword overlap with that posting. It is an estimate, not the output of an actual employer's applicant tracking system, so treat it as a guide for tailoring rather than a pass/fail verdict.

What is a good ATS resume score for a specific job posting?

There is no official cutoff, because every employer configures its ATS and screening differently. Treat the score as relative: aim to raise it for each posting by closing genuine keyword gaps and acting on the improvements list, then rescore to compare.

Should I add every missing keyword the ATS resume checker suggests?

No. Only add keywords that truthfully describe your skills and experience, ideally inside bullet points that show how you used them. Stuffing in skills you don't have can get you past a filter but tends to fall apart in the interview.

Does the ATS resume builder create a downloadable resume file?

No. It analyzes the plain text you paste and returns a score, feedback, keywords, power verbs and a rewritten summary. You make the edits in your own resume document, keeping a simple, single-column layout with standard section headings so ATS software can parse it.

Why does my resume score change when I rerun the ATS resume checker?

The score comes from an AI model, which can vary slightly from run to run even with the same text. Look at the direction of change across a couple of runs, and focus on whether the missing-keywords and improvements lists shrink after your edits.
