About the Background Remover
The Background Remover cuts the subject out of a photo and gives you back a PNG with a transparent background. Drop an image onto the page or click Choose image. The original and the result appear side by side, with the cut-out shown over a checkerboard so you can see exactly what's transparent, and Download PNG saves it as background-removed.png.
How it works. Unlike the in-browser image tools on this site, this one needs a server. Your image is uploaded to our server, which passes it to a third-party AI background-removal service and sends back the finished PNG. It accepts PNG, JPG and WebP files up to 12 MB. If the service isn't set up or doesn't respond, the tool tells you so rather than returning a broken result.
Who it's for. Online sellers who need clean product shots for marketplace and shop listings, creators making thumbnails and social graphics, freelancers putting a headshot on a website or résumé, and anyone turning a photo into a sticker, logo mock-up or presentation graphic.
Example. Snap a photo of a handmade mug on your kitchen counter and save it as a 3 MB JPG. Upload it and, usually within seconds, the right-hand panel shows the mug alone on the checkerboard. Download the PNG, place it on a plain white or brand-colored background in your design tool, and your listing photos match without a studio setup.
Getting a clean cut-out. Results are best when the subject is in focus and clearly separated from the background; good light and contrast help most. Fine detail like hair, fur, glass and soft shadows is the hardest part for any automatic cut-out, so zoom in before you publish. Because the image leaves your device, don't upload anything you wouldn't want processed by an outside service.
How to use it
- Pick a suitable image. Use a PNG, JPG or WebP file of 12 MB or less with a clear subject.
- Upload the image. Drop it onto the box or click Choose image to select it.
- Wait for processing. The image is sent to the background-removal service and the result loads automatically.
- Compare original and result. Check the cut-out on the checkerboard, especially around hair and edges.
- Click Download PNG. Save the transparent image as background-removed.png.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Background Remover process images in my browser or on a server?
On a server. Your image is uploaded to our server and forwarded to a third-party AI background-removal service, which returns the cut-out PNG. This differs from the site's Image Compressor and PDF tools, which run entirely in your browser.
What image formats and file sizes does the Background Remover accept?
PNG, JPG and WebP images up to 12 MB. The result is always a PNG, since that format supports the transparent background.
Why does the Background Remover say the service isn't available?
That message appears when the background-removal service hasn't been configured on the site or isn't responding. If you see a "too many requests" message instead, you've hit the limit of 20 images per minute from your network, so wait a minute and try again.
Can I replace the background with a color or another photo in the Background Remover?
Not in this tool. It outputs a transparent PNG; place that file on any color or image in a design tool such as Canva, Photoshop or your slide software.
How do I get cleaner edges on hair or fur with the Background Remover?
Start with a sharp, well-lit photo where the subject stands out clearly from a plain background. Fine strands, fur and see-through objects are the hardest for automatic cut-outs, so you may need a quick touch-up in an image editor.
