About the URL Shortener
The URL Shortener turns a long, messy link into a short one on this site's domain, in the form /s/your-slug. Paste the Long URL, optionally type a Custom slug, and click Shorten URL. Your short link appears below with a copy button, ready for a social bio, a text message, a printed flyer or a QR code.
How the links work. Each short link is stored on our server, and when someone opens it they're forwarded to your original address with a standard redirect. There's no built-in expiry date. Leave the slug blank and a random 7-character code is generated, or choose your own of 3–30 characters using letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, as long as it isn't already taken.
What it doesn't do. The server counts how often each short link is opened, but this tool doesn't display those numbers, and there's no dashboard for editing, pausing or deleting a link once it's created. Double-check the destination before you share it. Only http and https addresses are accepted, up to 2,048 characters.
Who it's for. Creators who need a tidy link for an Instagram or TikTok bio, sellers and affiliates sharing long product URLs, freelancers putting a portfolio link on a résumé, and anyone printing a link that people might have to type by hand.
Example. You want to share https://www.example.com/products/handmade-ceramic-mug?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=bio&utm_campaign=spring, which is 109 characters long. Paste it, type spring-mugs as the custom slug and click Shorten URL. You get back a link ending in /s/spring-mugs, and anyone who opens it lands on the full address with the UTM tags intact, so your shop's own analytics still sees where the visit came from.
How to use it
- Paste the long URL. Enter the full address, starting with http:// or https://, in the Long URL field.
- Add a custom slug (optional). Type 3–30 letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores, or leave it blank for a random code.
- Click Shorten URL. The short link is created and shown under Your short link.
- Copy your short link. Click the copy icon next to the link to put it on your clipboard.
- Test before sharing. Open the short link once to confirm it lands on the right page.
Frequently asked questions
Do links made with this URL Shortener expire?
No, short links have no built-in expiry date; they're stored on the site's server and keep redirecting to the original address. They only stop being useful if the destination page goes offline.
Can I see click statistics for links made with the URL Shortener?
Not currently. Opens are counted on the server, but the tool doesn't show those figures to you. To measure traffic, add UTM parameters to your long URL before shortening it and read the results in your own analytics.
What can I use as a custom slug in the URL Shortener?
Between 3 and 30 characters made of letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, with no spaces. If you see "Slug already in use", someone has taken that name; try a variation or leave the field blank for a random 7-character code.
Can I edit or delete a short link after creating it with the URL Shortener?
No, the tool has no way to change or remove a link once it's made. If you need a different destination, create a new short link and share that one instead.
Why won't the URL Shortener accept my link?
The address must be a valid URL that starts with http:// or https:// and is no longer than 2,048 characters, so add the https:// if you copied a bare domain. There's also a limit of 100 links per minute, after which you'll be asked to wait briefly.
